Rattlesnakes are an important part of the ecosystem, controlling rodent populations and maintaining natural balance. Follow these steps to keep yourself, others, and the snake safe.
- 1
Stay calm and keep your distance
Stay at least 6 feet away. Rattlesnakes only strike when they feel threatened — give them space and they will not attack.
- 2
Do NOT try to handle or kill it
Most bites happen when people attempt to pick up or kill a snake. Leave it alone. A dead or injured snake can still envenomate — even through a reflex bite.
- 3
Keep people and pets away
Calmly move children and pets indoors or to a safe distance. Watch the snake from afar so you can tell Dan exactly where it is when you call.
- 4
Note the snake's location
Take note of where the snake is — under a bush, on a porch, near a wall — without getting close. A photo from a safe distance is helpful.
- 5
Text or call Dan
Text (707) 590-5989 with your address and a brief description of where the snake is located. Dan will respond as quickly as possible to relocate the snake safely.

If someone is bitten — call 911 immediately
Keep the bite victim calm and still to slow venom spread. Remove tight clothing or jewelry near the bite. Do NOT cut the wound, suck out venom, or apply a tourniquet. Get to a hospital immediately.
🚨 If bitten — call 911 or go to the emergency room immediately. Do not wait for symptoms to develop.
